Telus House
Location: 215 Slater Street
, Ottawa, ON
Year Completed: 2003
Cost: N/A

Description: A key driver for this new facility was environmental responsibility. The project is targeting LEED Silver Certification and incorporates several innovative strategies which have reduced energy consumption by 40%. HVAC power and data distribution is provided under an 18" raised floor system. Conditioned air is supplied closer to where occupants sit and stand, rather than the traditional method of pushing the air from the ceiling down. Daylight harvesting is implemented through the use of addressable lighting on all office floors, adjusting automatically when outside daylight conditions change. The use of dual flush toilets and waterless urinals help reduce water consumption by 49% and 25% of the storm water collected on the roof is diverted from city sewers, into a cistern from which grey water is used for irrigating plants and trees.
